The Story
The Department of Applied Mechanics at IIT Delhi wanted a video that could do three things at once, trace the department's history, explain what it actually teaches, and show how that work connects to the industry students would eventually enter. The real goal underneath all of it: attract the right students to apply.
The project started with a script, built around a series of faculty interviews. That script became the backbone of the entire shoot, it let the team plan every B-roll shot around each interview slot, so nothing was wasted waiting on lab access or professor availability. The shoot ran across 4 days, scheduled around when each professor could sit down and talk.
The department's own coordination made the difference. The professor overseeing the project secured campus permissions, briefed faculty ahead of their interviews, booked every time slot, and even sourced older footage of labs and experiments that couldn't be reshot within the project's timeline. He sat in on the edit itself, working directly with Capture And Motion's editor to make sure the final cut matched exactly what the department needed, reviewed and signed off by the department heads before delivery.
One real constraint shaped the final film: drone permissions inside the IIT campus weren't available for this shoot. Rather than leave campus scale and setting out of the film entirely, the team pulled aerial footage from Rendezvous 2019, the department's cultural fest, footage Capture And Motion had itself shot and edited into the fest's official aftermovie. It gave the new film the sense of place it needed, without a single new drone flight, and came from work CAM already had a hand in.
The entire shoot was a one-person operation; audio, lighting, gimbal work, tripod setups, all handled solo by CAM's founder, Bhavesh, running a two-camera setup throughout, with the department's assigned professor stepping in wherever needed on the ground, particularly around permissions and access. Four days, multiple interview setups, and a full B-roll shoot, run without a crew, proof that the process holds up even when resources are stretched.
Impact
A Clear Story, Told in 5 Minutes - History, curriculum, and industry relevance, distilled into a single admissions-ready film.
Built for a Real Audience - Made specifically to give prospective students a reason to apply, not just to document the department.
A Constraint Solved, Not a Compromise - No new drone footage, but campus scale still came through, sourced from CAM's own aftermovie footage from Rendezvous 2019.
A Full Production, One Person Deep - Every technical role; audio, lighting, camera, gimbal, a two-camera setup, handled solo, without sacrificing the quality of the final film.
